Vhs Pal
will playing a NTSC tape on a PAL player damage the VHS tapes?
i have recently received many tapes from relatives in japan but the recording equipment they used was set up to record in NTSC, I dont know if my player can play the tapes as is does not say that it is either PAL or NTSC and if it can not will it cause any damage to the tapes themselves?
No – physically the tapes are the same, but the technique used to encode the data on the tapes is different.
Essentially all you will see is either a lot of wavy lines or static.
They still sell multi-region video recorders – I suppose now you’d be able to turn them up in a charity shop for around £10 or thereabouts
